You can find the Square Pub at 115 Sycamore Street, Decatur, GA 30030 - it's right on the Decatur square. Parking basically sucks at most times of the day - you might get extremely lucky and find a spot in the square but you'll probably have better luck along a side street - the price to park is about the same everywhere - I do like that the meters will notify you when you're time is running out AND you can add time using your phone. That's the only way to do this right in my opinion (unless you're visiting via MARTA - the station is on the backside of the square and quite convenient).
We were looking to have dinner at the Brickstore when we realized that it was much too busy - no way will normally wait for an hour for a table, so we walked along the square to explore what was available - we hit the Square Pub quite on a whim - while it was busy, there was one table available towards the window to the front of the restaurant. This Pub is three stories of narrow space and quite cozy. The bar extends along the right wall from when you enter and there appeared to be many locals imbibing drafts and noshing - we fit right in.
We were given three menus - the dinner menu, a drink specials menu and a beer menu - I was most interested in the latter of the three. Lots of interesting items on the menu, everything from Tex-Mex to sandwiches to pasta and several items featuring Hatch green chilis. There's also a late-night menu which I really appreciate (work in restaurants for a few years and you'll know what I mean).
For food, I went with my favorite Creature Comforts Tropicalia IPA of course. For food we were both wanting burgers - mine was the Green Chile Cheeseburger - 8 oz certified Angus beef topped with Hatch Green Chile and American Cheese. I piled on as much hot and spicy as possible - it was messy and quite good. It was one of the best burgers I've had in some time - everything from the perfectly cooked medium rare to the bun to the chiles all worked. I had it with a side of sweet potato tots served with some spicy mayo - also delicious.
Service was fairly exceptional with lots of attention our way from the server, who seemed cutely timid. All-in-all a great night and great dinner. For a pub, exceptional and leaning towards a gastropub.
